Warren French (AKA Papa Skip) is retired from a lifelong career in sales and marketing. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1967 with a BS degree in Business and then moved to Arizona and completed an MBA in 1968. He retired in 2013, and his first job was to kick cancer in the butt with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. After two series of radiation, he and Vivi then traveled on multiple bucket list trips in the US and Europe. In 2020, he started art lessons with Bruce Marion, a recognized art teacher, as a potential hobby which has become more beneficial than just a part-time hobby. He continues with art lessons to this date and paints on a daily basis accompanied by his small dog muse named Molly.
Thank you for visiting my art gallery. Little did I know at age 78, I would be creating a website to share and sell my creations. If I can do it, anyone can! I hope you enjoy reading about my journey and get inspired!
I would like to think my gallery has a little something for everyone. From the beauty and whimsy of animals, to busy streets and serene looks at nature, to my takes on masterpieces, If any of this art makes you smile, I am happy.
I hope my story inspires others, like Grandma Moses, who first start painting at age 78 in 1938, inspired me. One of her paintings now hangs at the White House. Who is to say this particular painting that we’ve nicknamed ”Wolfey” couldn’t inspire greatness if hung on the walls of Pennsylvania Avenue (or your home).
Papa Skip’s mother was an accomplished amateur artist who provided instruction and encouragement to Papa Skip during his young years in the 1950's. Her art mediums included oils, water color, clay sculpture and charcoal sketching,
Papa Skip's interest turned to mechanical and architectural drawing in his high school years. In the 1960s, these artistic endeavors required paper and pencil as computers did not exist!
Papa Skip had the inspiration, however, the positive influence and encouragement came from his wife Vivi who never forgot her husband’s natural talents throughout the years.
After a busy life of combining families, successful careers, getting kids through school and welcoming grandkids, well-deserved retirement came too.
That‘s when Vivi knew the time was right for Papa Skip to start painting again and she signed him up for classes. As you look through this gallery, we sure are thankful Vivi did!
